SCREENING

Special Screening:「The Unnamable Dance」(JP)

出町座

Min Tanaka made his debut in Paris in 1978 and has collaborated with artists from all over the world, performing more than 3,000 times to date. His appearances in films, which began with the movie “The Twilight Samurai” (2002), have expanded from Hollywood to Asia.

At the age of 40, Min Tanaka decided to “create his own body by working in the fields and dancing with that body”. At the age of 74, Min Tanaka dances on a street corner in Santa Cruz, Portugal, and says, “I am happy,” reminding us of the beauty of living life to the fullest and following one’s heart, no matter what age. Director Isshin Inudo, who has known Min Tanaka since his appearance in “Maison de Himiko,” shot the film while touring Portugal, Paris, Yamanashi, and Fukushima. Min Tanaka’s childhood is emotionally depicted in the animation created by Koji Yamamura, the first Japanese to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for “Touzan”.

Min Tanaka’s “dance of the place,” which does not belong to any genre, is so close to you that you can almost catch his breath, and you are gradually enveloped in a sense of euphoria – this is a rare film that we hope you will experience on screen.
