TALK

Artist Talk | Maïmouna Guerresi with Oussouby Sacko, Former President of Seika University [JP・IT]

Noku Kyoto

Maïmouna Guerresi will discuss her “Rûh|Spirito” exhibit at KYOTOGRAPHIE 2022 with Oussouby Sacko, Former President of Seika University.
The word “Rûh” in the title of this exhibition means “spirit” in Arabic, and is often used in combination with the word “roots”. Guerresi’s work is characterized by its juxtaposition of opposing concepts, linking the act of rooting (roots) with the dynamism implied by the word “path”. Guerresi, who herself is of Italian-Senegalese origin, explores religious and mythological symbols, their traditions and legends from the Western, Eastern, African, and Arab worlds from a perspective of “aesthetic syncretism”. Join us as Guerresi and Sacko discuss her work and explore what we can see in it.
