Yukari Chikura
Yukari Chikura, born in Tokyo, Japan. After graduating from university of music, she became a music composer, arranger and programmer. She is the Winner of STEIDL BOOK AWARD and her work ZAIDO was published by STEIDL in 2020. (ZAIDO was selected as “Best Photo Book 2020” of Photo-eye, VOGUE, LensCulture, PhotobookStore, 1000 Words, All About Photo.com, Vanity Fair among others). She won LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards 2016, 2020 IPA International Photography Awards: Book / Other (1st), LUCIE PHOTOBOOK PRIZE, Sony World Photography Awards, Photolucida Critical Mass TOP50 2016 & 2015, Julia Margaret Cameron Award (1st), National Geographic among others. Her works have been collected in The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Griffin Museum and Bibliotheque nationale de France, she has exhibited in numerous shows all over the world. Her work was selected as “FOTOFEST Discoveries of the Meeting Place, “IPA Best of Show photographer 2013” (Lucie Foundation). She was an artist in residence of Rokko International Photography Festival 2015. She gave a lecture at Tokyo Zokei University. She participated in “RPS Photobook Masterclass”, “Review Santa Fe 2014” and “Eddie Adams Workshop 2014”. She was nominated “Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2021”. Her work was published by NY Times, Guardian, Financial Times, Vanity Fair, NOWNESS, Vice Magazine among others.
ZAIDO is a work that followed people who overcomes various difficulties to carry on traditional culture.
I continue to shoot under the theme of hope born out of despair.
